"What Is a Hairdresser?"

I wrote this post a few months back about being a hairstylist and why I love what I do and I figured it would go along great with the Bargain Blonde's link-up "How I make that money honey." So here it is again.

I once received an awesome gift from my boyfriend, Aaron for Valentine's Day. It is one of my favorite gifts I've ever received. It was a bag full of old hair styling books, magazines, and a plaque that looked like this:This is what the plaque read:

"What Is a Hairdresser?"

A Hairdresser is a complexity dedicated to beautifying hair; she bends it, bleaches it, tints it, tones it, washes it, waves it, teases it, combs it, She cuts it, conditions it, curls it, rinses it, shapes it, straightens it, pins it, and sprays it...which naturally makes a woman beautiful. She is a pixie- Joan of Arc with sore feet- Florence Nightingale in a white uniform and brown fingernails. She is a businesswoman, a professional, a mother and a wife.

At one time or another her hair has been red, brown, black or blonde... and maybe all these colors at once. She can always "Squeeze in" just one more customer, but is constantly on-half hour behind her booking schedule. Her lunch "Hour" is about 8 minutes, usually spent discussing new products with her salesman. For lunch she generally has coffee, a cigarette, and occasionally a doughnut. She works Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and attends Beauty Shows on Sunday.

To her customers she is a Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Psychoanalyst, Advice to the lovelorn, Tax Consultant, Marriage Counselor, Fashion Coordinator and just plain friend.

In her salon she is stylist, financial wizard, cleaning woman, stock clerk, receptionist, purchasing agent, and very, very tired.

Sometimes marriage and a family take her away from her profession but just wait 'til those children grow up a little and she is back in the salon behind her styling chair doing the things she loves best. To her, hair dressing is not just a job, it is an emotion. Although she is paid for her services, her greatest reward comes when her customer turns in her styling chair, caresses her new hair style, and says...."I love it."

ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT....couldn't have put it any better myself. Every time I read it, it makes me smile. Aaron found these items in the attic at his mom's office. I guess the lady who lived there previously was a hair stylist and had left these items in her attic. Aaron thought I would enjoy them so he passed them along to me. Here are a few pics of the books/magazines:

Barber's Journal magazine: 1936

Flair Magazine: 1950

Hair style book....how cool are those styles?

The inside pages of the book tell you how to do it.

Ever since I could walk and talk, I knew that when I grew up I wanted to be a hair stylist. It has always been my dream. Just ask my aunts and they will tell you that's all I wanted to do. Here are a few pics to prove it:

Playing with my cousin, Miako's hair

As you can see from the above and below pics, my Aunt, Terri was always my best client. She was always willing to let me play with her hair for hours. I love that she lives in Austin and every time she comes into town she comes to see me at the salon so I can do her hair :)
Her are two more of my sweet aunts and my cousin, Blondell participating in a hair train.
My brother was also a trooper and played along
Most of the time for Christmas I asked for something that had to do with hair. One year I asked for a mannequin head, portable hood dryer, and a ponytail wiglet. Here I am with the hood dryer and ponytail clip in, haha.
This picture might come off as a little bit creepy. I had a friend make me a mannequin head stand and I spent numerous hours doing this for fun.

I LOVE my job. I don't think I will ever get tired of doing hair. There is rarely a day that I go into work in a bad mood. Most days, I don't even feel like I'm going to work. That's what I love most about what I do......that and making people feel good about themselves. It will never get old. I'm so thankful that I had the opportunity to attend beauty school in high school at almost no cost. I'm thankful for my job, my wonderful co-workers,  and my boss. It's amazing how well we get along for having only 9 stations and almost 20 stylists. We are like one big family....however, there are days we fight like one big family too! I love all my clients...I look forward to catching up with them every time they come in. It's amazing to me how much you can learn about someone in the short time they sit in your chair. Eventually, my goal is to own a salon or to work my way up in the salon industry, whether it be management, sales, teaching, etc. When I was younger, I used to sit around and brain storm names for my salon. I came up with a bunch of different weird, crazy names. At one point I didn't want it to just say salon on the front sign so I thought of beauty parlor, house of beauty, friseur shop (I looked up beauty or salon in the thesaurus and friseur was one of them)....what a strange child. I also came up with the name, "Curly Q's Beauty Parlor." Oh my, how that makes me laugh now!

What I'm Loving Wednesday- Target Style!

I'm linking up with Jamie for What I'm Loving Wednesday!

I made the mistake of going to Target this morning to buy a birthday gift for a friend......BAD IDEA. I ended up looking around at everything for about an hour and I found so many things I wanted. However, I'm proud to say the only thing I left with was a gift. Seriously, Target has the cutest stuff right now. Here are a few pics of the few things I wanted oh so badly. If anyone is wondering what to get me for my birthday in April, a Target card would be the perfect gift....I kid! Hope you all have a great day...I'm going to go enjoy this beautiful weather!

Valentine's Day!

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day. I also hope this post isn't too mushy/corny/cheesy for you, but I'm just giving you a fair warning. I wanted to share a little bit about my Valentine's Day. Aaron and I met for dinner after work and then saw The Vow. It was a very cute/sweet movie and yes, I did cry........but it doesn't hold a candle to The Notebook. However, I would still recommend that you see the movie. I just love Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum so much.

Aaron and I enjoy spending time together so obviously we like any excuse to go out on a date, but we don't go all out for Valentine's Day. It used to be a requirement that we only spend $20 on a gift and it had to be homemade, but after so many years, Aaron was running out of crafty ideas. So now we usually just get the usual cards, flowers, candy, etc...and I'm not complaining about it one bit. Here are the gorgeous flowers I got. I'm so glad they weren't roses. I like roses, but sometimes they're just plain and boring. I am in love with all the pretty flowers and colors in this arrangement. Nice job, Aaron. He also got me a card, box of chocolates, and he made me a CD of all my favorite songs. He also threw in Wade Bowen's CD with it :)

so pretty have you guys heard of a gurgle pot? It's a pitcher, in the shape of a fish, that gurgles when you pour it. My mom and dad bought me a gurgle pot for Valentine's Day in moss green and I love it! Thanks mom and dad!

I had no idea what to get Aaron so I browsed Pinterest (my trustworthy, all-knowing, best friend) and found a few fun ideas. Yes, they're corny and cheesy, but if you know me, I'm pretty much a corny/cheesy person. After all, I am my mother's daughter so I didn't really have much of a chance (sorry mom, love you). The labels on the pop bottles I downloaded from Pinterest and the other ones I made myself. Some of the sayings on the candy I got from Pinterest and some of them I came up with. I think I got a bigger kick out of it than Aaron did, but he was excited to have some treats to take to work.

I was just going to throw it all in a big basket, but I found these two buckets at Dollar Tree and thought they'd be perfect for Aaron since he loves baseball and hunting. They are supposed to be Easter baskets, but oh well!

I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day!

What I'm Loving Wednesday!

I'm linking up with Jamie for What I'm Loving Wednesday!

I hope you all had a great weekend. My weekend was wonderful. It was filled with lots of fun things and the people I love.

#1. Thursday night, Aaron and I went to the Jason Aldean/Luke Bryan concert with Lauren Alaina opening. It was an awesome concert. I have a new love for Luke Bryan. He is so fun to watch perform and you can tell he loves what he does! He likes to dance and shake his booty...you can tell he's a fun/goofy guy!

Heading to the concert

#2. Friday night I saw Wade Bowen in concert. We stood in the second row so we got to see him up close and personal. I loved every minute of it! How precious is he? LOVE him!

the girls at the concert

#3. My sweet friend/college roomie, Caitlin, called me this week to see what I was doing on Sat night. She needed to get her hair done and was willing to drive 3 hours to let me do it. I was so excited when she told me that because I haven't seen her in almost 6 months. We went to dinner, did hair, went to church, shopped, and of course caught up on all the latest gossip in our lives. It was fabulous and i'm so glad she came!

this was her hair inspiration
and here's the final product. I LOVE it. It looked so pretty on her!

#4. Sunday, this guy showed up to watch the Super Bowl with me and my family. Of course, it was a great time with lots of yummy food!

I'm looking forward to this upcoming weekend and my road trip to Ft. Smith to visit all my favorite friends from college. Praying the weather will be nice enough for me to travel!!

Hope you all are having a great week!!

Happy Wednesday!

Love,

Quincee

Happy 24th birthday to a very very very special best friend!! As you can see from the pics, we are definitely not normal people.....and that is why I think we're such great friends! I'm so thankful for her friendship and that we were able to meet in college and spend four fantabulously fun years together. I always know I can count on Alli, no matter how far apart we live....and everytime we reunite, it's like we never skipped a beat. I know she's going to kill me for posting these pics, but we always used to post blackmail pics on our facebook pages when it was the other one's birthday. I'm pretty sure that if you looked through all my old pictures from college, you wouldn't be able to find very many normal pictures of the two of us. All of these pictures remind me of the fun times we had and the memories we made. I miss you so much Allie!! I hope you have the best birthday ever. Can't wait till the next time we get to hang out!! LOOOOVVEEEEE YOUUUUUUU!!!!
