Christmas with the Best Friends!

The night before Christmas Eve I celebrated Christmas with three of my closest friends! We exchanged gifts, ate food, talked, and watched Father of the Bride. It was a successful evening filled with lots of FUN! I thought I'd share a few pics from the night.... I was SO excited about all of my wonderful gifts...they know me all too well! I got some Bath & Body Works candles and hand soap, THE PIONEER WOMAN COOKBOOK (can't wait to learn how to cook, haha), a Hobby Lobby gift card, and a Christmas tree cookie cutter!
My friend Beth got a fun OU ornament, a bottle of wine, and a close pin picture board that I made her.

Rachel got a bedazzled coffee canister, a book, a candle, and pj's.

Alli is excited about her gifts, can't you tell? She got a Skinny Girl book that has health nut info and recipes, a candle, and Niven Morgan Gold hand lotion.

Love these girls!

I couldn't figure out what to get Beth for Christmas so I hit up a few thrift stores in search of a wooden picture frame that could be transformed into a close pin picture board. Here is what I found: It was a super ugly frame, but I could tell it had some potential!

Here is the final product:
It was a very easy process. I just took the plexiglass out, spray painted the frame, covered the matte in fabric, nailed some black wire to the back of the frame, and close pinned the pics to the wire. The hardest part was trying to get the three lines of wire evenly spread out which I didn't to such a hot job on, but I was happy with the end result. I like that it's a cheap and easy way to display pictures, rather than using a picture frame or bulletin board.

Christmas Decor

When I was in college I found a really nice kitchen table in the classifieds. It was made of solid oak wood and it had a leaf and six chairs....the only thing wrong with it was the awful material on the chair covers. For the longest time, I've been meaning to recover them, but I haven't been able to decide on what fabric I like best. My mom had some red fabric that she said I could use for now just so they could be temporarily recovered. It's not what I would have picked out, but it looks SO much better than the old fabric and it matches the kitchen and is festive for Christmas. I will leave them like this until I get my own house and decide how I want it to be decorated. The chairs were super easy to recover! Here's the cushion before...YUCK!

And here it is after:
Before:After:Someday my goal is to paint the legs and chairs all black and stain the top a dark wood and add fun fabric to the cushions...we'll see!My mom bought me these fun Christmas hand towels from Pier 1. Aren't they cute? While searching for a corny Christmas sweater at a thrift store, I spotted this little jewel for $6 and I had to have it. I LOVE it!
I discovered two of my new FAVORITE wax melt scents today. My most favorite is the Scentsy Go-Go-Goji. It's an exotic blend of Chinese goji berry, sweet lotus flowers, and ripe warm dewberries. I have it burning in my room right now and I can't get enough of it. You seriously need to try it. My other favorite is Tyler Candle Co's Frosted Pomegranate...YUM!

December Happenings!

This is what I'm loving about December:

1. Christmas Parties- i love love love Christmas parties. This past weekend I attended my first Christmas party of the season.....it was a work party. We ate dinner at a fun restaurant in Norman called Yumato. It's one of those restaurants where they cook the meal in front of you. I had a very good time and got lots of goodies.
My boss is amazing and super sweet and she gave everyone a bottle of Kenra Hot Spray, Kenra Root Lift, clips, and product samples. She also had a bunch of fun stuff that she gave away in a drawing. I won the drawing and got the blue biolage scissor case...it has different pockets where you can put shears, clips, combs, etc. My co-worker who drew my name got me a $20 gift card to BJ's and a cute red scarf...SAWEET! And last, but definitely not least I got a CHI for doing so well as a new stylist.....REALLY??? I was super pumped!! Did I mention I love my job, my co-workers, my clients, and especially my boss....they are all AWESOME!
These are all the wonderful ladies I work with....a few stylists were missing. Another thing that makes my job even better is that I now get to work next to one of my best friends from cosmetology school. She just started working last week and it's so great to see her beautiful face everyday (she's on the far right).

I will be hosting our annual Christmas party at my house this weekend. All my high school friends have gotten together for a Christmas party for the last 5 years or so. We all wear corny Christmas sweaters and play dirty santa....it's always my favorite party of the year because we have so much fun!

2. Aaron will be a COLLEGE GRADUATE!! This Saturday my boyfriend Aaron will be graduating from college with a degree in Environmental and Health Safety Management and a minor in Biology. I am so proud of him for completing college in 4.5 years. My parents and I will be making the trip to Tahlequah to attend his graduation and help celebrate his achievement. Aaron will be moving back to his hometown while he is searching for a job.....this means that he will be an hour and a half closer to me....YAY!!

3. Receiving Christmas cards in the mail- I love seeing all the cute Christmas cards that people come up with.....I think they're fun to look at and fun to display. I've already gotten a few so far and they are displayed on my shutter bulletin board in the kitchen.

4. Giving gifts....and let's be honest, who doesn't like receiving gifts too?? but I honestly can say that I like giving gifts just as much as receiving them, if not more. I love seeing people's reactions when you get them the perfect gift.

5. Spending time with family while making Christmas treats, playing in the snow, singing Christmas carols, and celebrating the real reason for the season, Jesus' birth!

It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas......

I'm proud to say that on my day off today I put up the Christmas tree and did some Christmas shopping. I'm so close to being completely done...I only have six more gifts to get (this makes me very happy and stress free). It looks a little bare around the tree, but I'm planning on buying a skirt to go around the bottom of it and once we get some presents under it I think it will look just fine.

Ashley (Trevor's gf) brought over her little tree and put it up last night. The random little wall that sticks out in the kitchen entry area is the perfect place for it! I'm loving my chalkboard...it's fun to switch up what it says. I had give thanks written on it for Thanksgiving and I woke up one morning and to my surprise the give thanks had been removed and it read "do your chores." Yes, that's right...I live with boys, but Trevor is very tidy and doesn't hesitate to remind us to keep the house clean. I guess that's what you get when you live with your landlord!I'm just waiting for the day when I come home and the dogs have destroyed the tree...I was so surprised that neither of them messed with it today. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Happy Thanksgiving!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!! I hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving with lots of food, fellowship, and friends/family time! I will be leaving shortly to make my way to this place....

Where I'll be seeing lots of this....

And doing a lot of this....

And bringing along these two, which will make things a lot more interesting!

Something tells me that regardless of the weather, this is going to be a FUN filled trip! Don't forget to remember what you're thankful for this Thanksgiving!

I'm so thankful for: my amazing family, my friends, food, shelter, good health, my dog Samson, my awesome boyfriend Aaron, a job that I love, the beauty of nature, God's miracles, and so so so much more.

I attended a fun Thanksgiving dinner in Tahlequah on Monday night with Aaron and some of his friends. The meal was fantastic, complete with stuffing, turkey, ham, salad, rolls, corn, broccoli cheddar casserole, cookies, and pecan pie. I'm proud to say that it was my first time ever to try WILD TURKEY and it was AWESOME! Aaron called me a few days prior to the dinner to tell me they got the turkey. I assumed he meant they went and bought it at the store...oh no of course not. What are hunters supposed to do??? Kill their own meat. Aaron didn't kill the turkey, but some other hunters shot it and left it so Aaron's friends picked it up. Don't worry it didn't sit on the side of the road like road kill. I told Aaron there was no way I was going to eat that turkey, but he said they picked it up right after it was killed and prepared it to be frozen. They fried the wild turkey and I got brave enough to try it. WOW, it was sooo good! I don't know that I've ever had fried turkey before, but it was so much juicer and had tons of flavor!

The Tahlequah gang....love them!!

Halloween 2010!

Here are some pictures from my Halloween weekend. My friend Stephanie and Jackie hosted the party and they did an AWESOME job with decorations and food! It looked very festive and the food was amazing. Of course, I didn't expect anything less because Stephanie is a chef for Abbey Road Catering and Jackie makes their desserts. Let's just say my cookies didn't compare and were left untouched....oh well, I figured they didn't stand a chance.
Yummy red velvet cake balls!
Delicious eyeball deviled eggs.
Spider web seven layer dip.

Vegetable tray and dip shaped like a mummy. The mummy's eyes were olives....so cute!
If you ever need someone to cater an event or party, these are the girls to call. Stephanie will be doing my wedding someday :)
Stephanie as Marilyn Monroe and her sister dressed as Sarah Palin.

The leprechaun and his pot of gold.

Jackie and her husband as Barbie and Ken.

My brother as a lumber jack and his friend Patrick as Creeper McCreeperton! Patrick didn't have a costume so he wore Trevor's from last year and he ended up winning scariest costume and won $50.

Thing 1 (me) and Thing 2 (Sabrina)
My friends from college couldn't make it and I was super sad, but Sabrina stepped in and used the costume. We had a lot of fun with it!
Hope everyone had a great Halloween!

Halloween Treats!

I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween weekend. I thought it would be fun to make some Halloween cookies for tonight's costume party. They are homemade sugar and peanut butter cookies with butter cream icing. I slaved on them all morning and they didn't turn out like I was hoping. As you can see, I'm not the greatest cook in the world. I personally think they turned out quite comical and they taste a little funny too. Oh well, it was fun anyhow. I hope they get eaten tonight. I did try a cookie and they're not that bad, just a little dry.

Those are supposed to be cats if you can't tell haha.

I bought this canister of 100 cookie cutters. There's a full alphabet and various designs for every holiday. I'm excited to practice making cookies more often so I can perfect them.

I'm excited for the costume party tonight. Don't worry, I will be taking my camera and I will post pictures of all the wonderful costumes. Happy Halloween :))

A White Christmas!

Well this year we definitely had a WHITE Christmas in Norman. It snowed 14 inches in one day! My mom and I had some last minute Christmas shopping to do on Christmas Eve so we set out to go to Wal-Mart thinking we could make it in the BLIZZARD.....boy were we wrong! It ended up being a three hour trip, taking us an hour and a half just to get home! We did pretty good until we got stuck on the railroad tracks....needless to say we got a little heated and nervous and had a mental breakdown until I was able to push us over the tracks. Then, we got stuck pulling into our neighborhood and our guardian angel (my dad's friend Terry) was luckily pulling out at the same time and he shoveled us out. My mom, Aunt Jan, and I baked chocolate covered pretzels and peanut butter fudge, it was a lot of fun. My mom and I have never done the whole Christmas baking thing, but I think we've decided that it's a tradition we might pick up. Unfortunately we weren't able to make it to Christmas in Texhoma and my dad was there all by himself. We sure missed him at the house on Christmas morning and hated opening up presents without him. Luckily he made it home on Sat and he got to open up his presents in front of us. We did lots of sledding and playing in the snow. The puppies absolutely loved every minute of it!! If you look at the pictures below, you will see how much fun we had. Trevor thought it would be fun to do a handstand in the snow to show how deep it was, but he didn't realize he would have a horrible brain freeze when he came up! Oh well, it made for a great pic right? All in all we had a GREAT Christmas, eventhough it was a little different than most. All that really matters is that we got to spend it with family, celebrating Jesus' birth. I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas as well!

This is Aunt Jan's FABULOUS Christmas sweater that she let Trevor borrow for a Christmas party. We got a kick out of it!! I bet you like my mom's pink robe too....haha!
