DIY Cake Stands!

(source: tiny prints)

I've been seeing a lot of fun DIY cake stands around blog world lately. They seem very easy to make and they look so cute. I've always wanted a wide variety of cake stands so that you can use as presentation pieces when you host parties and such. Basically all you need to make your own cake stand is a candlestick and a plate. I found a bunch of really cute plates the other day at TJMaxx and I couldn't resist buying them, after all the price tag was very appealing. I'm planning on making all three plates into cake stands, but I haven't found the perfect size candlesticks yet. I want some of mine to be taller like the above picture and I want some to be short. I also haven't decided what color to paint the candlesticks.

Plate #1- I thought this plate would make a really cute all white cake stand. I love the fun detail along the edge. I'm planning on painting the candlestick bottom of this one white, I just hope I can match the white color perfectly.Plate #2- I love this cute plate. I figured it could be used as a stand for my friend's upcoming baby shower. I'm thinking about painting the candlestick a fun turquoise or green color...what do you think? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Plate #3- I liked this plate mainly because of the shape, but I also really like the color and the design too. Not sure if I should do a solid white candlestick or a green color. Help please!

I'm planning on venturing out to find candlesticks sometime this weekend and I'll hopefully have them done by the end of next week. I'll make sure and post after pictures!

Wine Bottle Vase!

This is the easiest project you will ever do. It literally took me 10 minutes to complete and I absolutely love the outcome.

Step 1: Wash the outside and inside of a wine bottle. I just soaked it in hot water for a few minutes and then scrapped the label off with a wire brush (that was the hardest part of it, which was not all that hard.)
Step 2: Spray paint the bottle and let dry.
Step 3: Glue twine around the neck of the bottle. I just glued the twine where I started and then wrapped it and put a dot of glue on the end where it ended.
Step 4: Add flowers!

Craft Day!

Today is my day off from work which equals a day of crafting! I recently bought a few items from flea markets and fairs and I decided to start turning them into treasures for the house. I'll post before and after pictures when I'm done.

I thought this basket would be really cute as a table top decoration in the living room. I'm planning on finding some cute decorative balls to put inside of it. For Fall and Thanksgiving, I'll probably fill it with pumpkins, squash, gourds, etc. Then for Christmas I'll put some ornaments in it. I don't think I'm going to paint it or anything, I like the rustic look of it.

This is a piece of decorative metal. I bought it with the intention of using it as a magnetic board for pictures, but I'm kind of liking it as is. I might just hang it up in the kitchen somewhere. Not sure yet.

I got really excited when I found this rocking chair and foot stool at a flea market in Tahlequah for only $25. It looks brand new. I honestly don't know why I felt the need to buy a rocking chair, but I figured it'd be a fun project. I'm going to sand and paint the wood and then find some really cute fabric to cover both the cushions on it. I'm sure someday it will be put to good use.

I also found this chalkboard at the flea market in Tahlequah for $6. I've been looking for something to use as a chalkboard for the kitchen. I think they are really cute and you can use them to write a menu for the week (which mine won't be used for because I don't cook), bible versus, or cute sayings. Obviously, I'm going to paint over what's on it now and somehow make it look cuter.

Last, but not least, I plan on transforming this wine bottle into a fabulous flower vase. I found this idea in another blog and it was so cute. All they used was spray paint, twine, and flowers. How cute and easy? I would give credit where credit is due to the blog that inspired me, but I completely forgot where I saw it....oops!

P.S.- I finished my book "Kasey to the Rescue" and it was AWESOME!!!! Aaron is coming tonight, not sure yet what we are going to do, but I think a fun date night is in the works :)
