Training Progress #4!

4 weeks down, 14 weeks to go!!

This past week I ran a total of 19 miles and it's still only the beginning. Here's a recap of my week.

Tuesday: ran 3 miles (duration of run: 28:11)
Wednesday: ran 4 miles (42:09)
Thursday: ran 3 miles (33:04)
Saturday: ran 9 miles (1 hour and 43 minutes, 11:10 mile pace)

As you can see, I calibrated my sport band on Wednesday and it shows that my pace is a bit slower than what I previously thought. It's hard to know exactly which times are accurate, but on Saturday I ran with my mom's GPS watch on and it's VERY accurate since it uses satellite. My mom rode her bike beside me on my long run. It made it so much easier. I felt pretty good afterwards. During mile 8 my right foot and ankle was causing me some pain, but after a while it went away and I haven't had any trouble with it since.
In my stocking at Christmas I got a lot of GU Energy and energy Jelly Belly's to use for training. Saturday was my first time to use the GU. You are supposed to take it 15 minutes before you workout and continue using it every 45 minutes, or as needed. Obviously, it is to be used during long, strenuous workouts. I decided that I would definitely need all the help I could get while running 9 miles. I tried the orange flavored GU and I'm not going to lie, I almost threw up. It's very thick and gooey and it tastes AWFUL, but it really worked! After I ran I ate a plate full of fruit and got a Jamba Juice with an energy boost for breakfast. I crave fruit a lot after running and I have to take a lot of hot baths to keep my muscles from getting sore. This week I will run 3 miles Tuesday, 5 miles Wednesday, 3 miles Thursday, and 10 miles Saturday!

Baby Girl Outfit!

A friend from work asked me to make custom outfits for her friend who is having twin girls. She wanted them to be all girl so we embellished them with lots of glitter, rhinestones, and ribbon. I had a blast making them and I'm pleased with how they turned out. They haven't yet decided on a name for the other baby girl so I've only completed one set. The other one will have the same exact tu-tu, but the onesie will be in pale pink and hot pink instead of purple. I'll post pictures of that one once it's done. If you or anyone you know is having a baby anytime soon and you'd like a custom onesie or tu-tu, please let me know....I'd love to design an outfit for you :)

Training Progress #3!

3 weeks down, 15 more to go!!!

This week was a short week....hallelujah!

Tuesday: ran 3 miles (duration of run: 28 min 33 sec)
Wednesday: ran 4 miles (38:16)
Thursday: ran 3 miles (27:56)
Saturday: ran 5 miles (49:16)

DISCLAIMER: It is HIGHLY, VERY HIGHLY likely that these times are not accurate. I used my sport band to get them, but I really don't think it's possible that my times have increased so much in a week's time. I don't think I really ran 3 miles in 27:56. I believe it is time to calibrate my sport band again so it will be more accurate. I plan on doing that today, so we'll see what next week's times look like. I figured I'd go ahead and put them on here for my own good!

I'm absolutely 100% dreading the running schedule for next week!! 3 miles on Tuesday, 4 miles Wednesday, 3 miles Thursday......and hold your breath for this one.....9 MILES SATURDAY! Yup, you heard me right, 9 MILES! I'm already about to pass out thinking about it. Oh well, I'm going to enjoy my weekend and try to not think about running at all!

Gelish Much??

I'm super excited about my latest online purchase of the Gelish salon starter kit. If you're not familiar with Gelish yet, just wait.....I promise it will not disappoint. I've been noticing lately that the latest trend in nails is UV soak off gel polish. It's basically a gel nail polish that lasts up to three weeks. It doesn't hurt your natural nail and it actually helps them grow. I have very strong and long natural nails so I have never been a fan of fake/artificial nails because they always ruin my real nails. However, every time I paint my nails they chip within hours because I constantly have my hands in the shampoo bowl. My nails never look good because they are either chipped or stained with hair color. I finally found the perfect solution and I'm SO happy with the product. I got my nails done at a nail salon that used Gelish and I was amazed. it stayed on for three weeks and there was no signs of chipping. My nails grew super fast and I soaked them off last night and they look and feel the same as they did before I got them done. I was so impressed with this product that I bought a started kit and I'm going to be doing them at the JCPenney Salon in Norman. Most places I've seen charge $30 for a set which is probably what I will charge. The starter kit includes a base and top coat and 12 different colors. I picked out some really fun colors and I can't wait for them to get here. If you're interested in getting your nails done, please let me know!
Here is a picture of all the colors available. I ordered Red Roses, Good Gossip, Gossip Girl, Sleek White, June Bride, Tiger Blossom, Mint Icing, Deep Sea, Star Burst, Golden Treasure, Bashful, and Rendezvous.

Training Progress- Week 2

2 weeks down, 16 to go!!!

Here is my progress from week two.

Wednesday: ran 3 miles (duration of run: 28 min 9 sec)
Thursday: ran 3 miles (28:03)
Friday: ran 3 miles (28:25)
Sunday: ran 7 miles (1 hour, 12 minutes, and 48 seconds- 10:23 mile pace)

I'm not going to lie, the second week was much tougher than the first week. For some reason it seemed harder to run the 3 miles 3 days in a row. I ran my long run on Sunday. I ran around 8:30am and it was about 34 degrees outside. Half way through the run it began sleeting....what a BLAST right? Luckily, my boyfriend was in town and he rode his bike beside me the whole way. He was such a trooper. It makes a world of difference when you have someone running or riding beside you giving encouragement. This week's training should be easier. I will run 3 miles Tuesday, 4 miles Wednesday, 3 miles Thursday and 5 miles Saturday! I'll keep you posted!

Way Back Wednesday- Quincee & Vern!

I thought honoring my sweet friend Vern would be fitting for this week's Way Back Wednesday post because it is the week of her wedding...AHH so excited! I have known Veronica for a very long time. Way back when, my dad was Veronica's track coach.....then she became my babysitter ...and then she ended up sharing a classroom with my dad when she taught at Norman High. My dad got lucky because he didn't have to decorate a thing in the room. I remember her classroom was always the coolest one....lots of fun colors and decorations all over! A few years after I graduated from cosmetology school Veronica became one of my favorite/most loyal hair clients. Believe me when I say loyal... there was once a time when I colored her hair and I accidentally bought the wrong box of color and didn't know it....she had bright orange roots! She was such a trooper and went with it until I was able to fix it. She would always come over to my parents house to get her hair cut when I came home from college. It was a requirement that we cut it at my parents house so that she could sit and talk to my mom while getting her hair done. It was always fun to catch up while doing her hair. If you know Vern then you know that it is always fun when she's around. There's never a dull moment. She is so full of energy and life all the time! Veronica has always been an inspiration and a role model to me. She is an amazing woman of God and has such an evident strong faith in Him. She has been blessed with so many spiritual gifts. It's probably safe to say that she has never met a stranger and I know she leaves a positive lasting impression on everyone she meets. I have learned many things about being a good Christian through interaction with Vern and listening to her stories about life. One of my favorite things in my bedroom is a frame that Veronica made me that says "Yes Lord". It was such a small gift, but it means so much! I keep it on my nightstand as a constant reminder.

I am so excited that Vern has finally met her match and will marry him this Saturday! She has been patiently waiting for this day for a very long time! I know she will make an amazing wife and mother. Her fiance is a VERY VERY lucky man. From what I hear she is a VERY VERY lucky woman too! I could not be more thrilled for the two of them. I am honored that Veronica chose me to do her hair for the big day. She came over last week and we tried out a few different hair styles. It was very sweet and special to see her excitement and joy as she tried on the veil. She is going to look absolutely stunning!

Here are some pictures from back in the day:

Vern,
Thank you so much for your friendship and loyalty throughout the years. You definitely win the best client award. I'm so excited and honored to have a part in your wedding day. I know you're going to be the most beautiful bride. Can't wait to walk through this next stage of life with you and Kory! Love you!

Week 1 Training Progress!

1 week down, 17 to go!!!! YIKES! I decided I'm going to write a weekly post on my marathon training progress. I'm mainly doing it for my personal use so when I look back at past blog posts I can see how far I've come and will be able to remember how I felt during the training.....and I figured some of you might be interested in it.

Week 1:
Tuesday: ran 3 miles (duration of run= 29:16)
Wednesday: ran 3 miles (29:01)
Thursday: ran 3 miles (29:25)
Sunday: ran 6 miles (1:01:55)

I'm proud to say that I ran 6 miles at a 10:18 mile pace...for some of you that might be a piece of cake, but for me it is a big deal! My goal is to stay at a 10 min. mile pace for as long as I can. I will be running 16 miles this week and I'll keep you posted on how that goes.
